Jan Sobieski III, King of Poland in the late seventeenth century, was the grandfather of Princess Clementina Sobieska who, in 1719, married Prince James Stuart, the 'Old Pretender'. The Sobieski Hours, produced in France for Margaret of Burgundy in the early fifteenth century, was rebound for Jan Sobieski. On the death in 1807 of his great-grandson, Prince Henry Benedict Stuart, Cardinal York (the last of the Stuarts in the male line), the manuscript was bequeathed to George IV
