Holyrood Week, 30 June to 4 July 2008

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh undertake a variety of engagements in Scotland each year at the beginning of July to celebrate Scottish culture, history and achievement. The event is known as 'Holyrood week'. This year's engagements are detailed below.
30 June 2008
Afternoon - The Queen attends the Ceremony of the Keys. This traditional ceremony welcomes Her Majesty to Edinburgh. The City Chamberlain presents the keys of the city to The Queen as a sign of respect, welcoming her to 'your ancient and hereditary kingdom of Scotland'.
1 July 2008
Morning - Investiture at the Palace of Holyroodhouse Find out more about Investitures; audiences with the First Minister, the Presiding Officer and the Lord High Commissioner.

2 July 2008
Morning - Thistle Service. The Order of the Thistle represents the highest honour in Scotland and is presented to Scottish men and women who have held public office or who have contributed in a particular way to national life. The service celebrates the Order, its history and its current members. Find out more about the Order of the Thistle.
Afternoon - Audiences with the new Lord Lyon and the departing Lord Lyon.
Evening- Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme dinner.
3 July 2008
Morning - visit to SportScotland National Centre, Inverclyde House, Largs; visit to Golden Jubilee National Hospital, Clydebank.
Afternoon - Garden Reception at the Beardmore Hotel, Clydebank; visit to Milngavie Water Treatment Works, Barrachan, Milngavie.
4 July 2008
Morning - Visit to Queen Margaret University.
Afternoon - Visit to Scotland's People Centre; The Duke of Edinburgh attends a Duke of Edinburgh's Award Gold Awards Ceremony at Holyroodhouse.
