This pair of Polish dolls, dressed in national costume, was a Christmas present from the President of Poland (President Raczkiewicz) to Princess Elizabeth (now The Queen) and Princess Margaret in December 1940. It was the first Christmas after the transfer of the Polish Government-in-Exile to London. The wooden dolls are dressed for their wedding. Their faces are carved and painted, their limbs are fully articulated, and their clothes - particularly the girl's - are exquisitely made and decorated
