16 July 2002: Young people under 25 attend a Jubilee garden party at Buckingham Palace
Young men and women born since The Queen's Silver Jubilee in 1977 were present at the second garden party held at Buckingham Palace in Golden Jubilee year. Over 2,000 under-25-year-olds were present at the event, which took place in bright sunshine in the Palace gardens.
Looking forwards to the future is one of the six themes of The Queen's Golden Jubilee. The young people invited to the Palace on this occasion were certainly part of the 'future'. Their talents spanned a wide range of fields and organisations, including the civil service, health, law, the Armed Services, the emergency services, education, local government, the arts sector, politics, trade unions, television, music and sport.
A total of 8,000 guests were present at the garden party. The Queen, Prince Philip and other members of the Royal Family mingled among the crowds, meeting and chatting to many of them.
The event was the second of three garden parties hosted by The Queen in her Jubilee year. A garden party on 9 July included guests born on Accession Day, 6 February 1952. The third garden party - to be held on 30 July - will include guests from some of the charities with which The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh are involved.
